Watch: Nicola Sturgeon voices approval of Janey Godley mock daily briefing tweet

Comic’s tweet gains approval from FM

Nicola Sturgeon has voiced her approval of a tweet by comedian Janey Godley that makes light of her daily coronavirus briefings.

The First Minister retweeted a clip on Sunday of Glasgow comic Godley performing an expletive-laden voiceover on one of her official government messages.

In her latest address at Edinburgh’s St Andrew’s House, Ms Sturgeon warned stringent new measures to prevent the virus from spreading should not be considered “optional”.

“Life should not feel normal,” Ms Sturgeon said, before stating that Scots should be asking themselves “if you are doing the right things” to avoid becoming infected.

Watching the briefing was Janey Godley, who decided to use the footage for one of her typically sardonic voiceovers.

Godley is famous for grabbing footage of important government broadcasts and putting her own wry twist on them.

The voiceover caught the eye of the First Minister who acknowledged that humour was most welcome during this time – particularly if it helped spread her important message.

Sharing the clip, Ms Sturgeon wrote: “I would *never* use language like this, obvs - but we could all do with a smile just now.

“And if humour helps get the message across.”

The latest figures yesterday revealed that the number of confirmed cases in Scotland now stands at 416, with a tenth person having lost their life to the deadly flu.

Ms Sturgeon’s warning comes amid reports of the public not taking the pandemic advice seriously by crowding parks and beaches over the weekend.
