The Tokyo Olympics are to be postponed by a year until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Japanese leader proposed the postponement amid concerns athletes around the globe are unable to train due to social distancing measures imposed to limit the spread of the virus.

Japan's request for a one-year postponement of the Summer Olympics has been granted by the IOC, it has been reported.
