The Bruce Arms based in Limekilns, Fife, has responded to the emergency measures outlined by the UK Government by launching a home delivery service for locals as of today.

The pub is home delivering bottled beer, cider, wine and soft drinks, as well as bar meals, including homemade pizza, with immediate effect.

The outlet has also announced it plans to home deliver draft lager, cider and cask ales in two-pint cartons, that it claims are completely recyclable, from Thursday.

The home delivery service applies only to residences in Limekilns and Charlestown, but the practice may yet become more widely adopted as Scottish pubs fight for survival.

The extraordinary measure has come in response to Government advice for people to avoid visiting pubs, as well as other public spaces such as cinemas and restaurants.

Pubs and restaurant owners are calling for immediate action to support the industry financially after Prime Minister Boris Johnson stopped short of ordering entertainment venues to close.

The British Beer and Pub Association has written to Mr Johnson, demanding urgent steps are taken to prevent mass job losses and permanent pub closures.

‘Thousands of pubs and hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost in the very short term unless a proactive package creating cash and liquidity is provided immediately to the industry,” the letter said.

A statement posted on the Bruce Arms’ official Facebook site said: “We’ve had our very own Cobra meeting here at The Bruce Arms and whilst we remain open as a business, we completely understand that many of our beloved customers will want to follow government advice by refraining from entering public houses and restaurants.”

The post continued said of home deliveries of alcohol: “We can also incorporate bottled beer, cider, wine and soft drinks.

“From Thursday 19th March we hope to be able to offer draft Lager, Cider and Cask Ales in 2 pint cartons (completely recyclable).”

The statement added: “If you do decide to come to the pub please be reassured that sanitisation and cleaning are carried out at regular intervals on all surfaces and contact points, including card machine and Epos system. This is something we take incredibly seriously and there is a hand sanitiser station upon entry at the front door.

“Finally, if you are showing any signs of Covid-19, generally feel unwell or are perhaps just unsure, please stay at home and be safe. Your health is what’s most important.”
