Residents across Scotland stood at their windows cheering and clapping as pipers played Scotland the Brave in the country’s national salute to honour hardworking staff.

The Clap For Carers campaign, which started online, is being staged to show the nation’s support and appreciation for NHS workers fighting the coronavirus.

Organisers said: "During these unprecedented times they need to know we are grateful.”
