Prime Minister Boris Johnson moved out of intensive care but staying in hospital

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved out of intensive care but will remain in hospital, Downing Street has confirmed this evening.

A No 10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister has been moved this evening from intensive care back to the ward, where he will receive close monitoring during the early phase of his recovery.”

Mr Johnson is said to be in good spirits.

The Prime Minister has been receiving treatment for coronavirus at St Thomas' Hospital in London since Sunday – 10 days after testing positive for the virus.

He was moved to the intensive care unit on Tuesday after his symptoms worsened.

He was receiving "standard oxygen treatment" in intensive care but had not been on a ventilator.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been deputising for the Prime Minister and said earlier at the daily coronavirus briefing that he had not spoken to Mr Johnston since his hospital admission.
