Nicola Sturgeon: Technical issue hampers Covid-19 figures update

A technical issue with Scotland’s coronavirus reporting system means figures confirmed today may be “slightly lower than we expected,” the First Minister has said.

Nicola Sturgeon said the technical issue meant some positive cases of the virus had not been included in Monday’s daily total.

She added that totals published tomorrow and on Wednesday may also be artificially high as today’s unreported cases are included in the figures.

Speaking at her daily briefing, Ms Sturgeon said 369 people had tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, 6.1 per cent of all those who were tested.

It brings the total number of positive tests in Scotland since the start of the pandemic to 95,058.

She also confirmed that there had been three new deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing Scotland’s death toll to 3,725.

133 of the cases were reported in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde region, 49 in NHS Lanark, and 48 in NHS Lothian.

The remaining cases were spread across the eight other mainland health board areas.

As of 9am this morning, 1,041 people are being treated for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals, eight fewer than on Sunday.

75 people are in intensive care with the virus, one fewer than yesterday.
