Construction workers who helped to build the NHS Louisa Jordan were applauded by NHS staff as they left the completed hospital today.

The £43 million emergency hospital will be able to receive patients from Monday, after it was built in just 20 days.

The hospital, housed in Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition Centre, will initially be able to take 300 patients, with capacity for more than 1,000 if needed.

Over 800 people have been involved in the building of the new centre, which is equipped with a pharmacy, CT scanners, a radiology department and laboratories, as well as catering, portering and cleaning facilities.

A video of the applause was shared on the official Twitter account for NHS Louisa Jordan, with the caption: “Every week, the nation has been #ClappingForCarers. Today, as construction is completed on @NHSLouisaJordan, our NHS staff are clapping for every single member of our contractor teams who have worked night and day to make this possible. Thank you!”

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman expressed her thanks to all those who had worked on the hospital.

“I want to offer my sincere gratitude and thanks to the contractors and NHS Scotland staff who have come from across Scotland to work tirelessly to transform the SEC into the NHS Louisa Jordan. You are an inspiration to us all,” she said
