In his briefing Mr Johnson set out plans for stricter lockdown measures on the country, including asking people to stay at home from Thursday.
He said that essential shops, educational settings and some workplaces will stay open and medical appointments could still go ahead.
However, pubs, bars and restaurants must close except for takeaway and delivery.
The Prime Minister also announced that the furlough scheme would be extended to take into account the new measures.
The new restrictions are in place until the start of December.
Ms Sturgeon took to Twitter shortly after the announcement was made, saying: “The Scottish Government will take considered decisions based on what is right for Scotland.
"A key point for us - which we hope to clarify ASAP - is whether extended furlough support is available only in November or flexibly for devolved admins. That could have an impact on our decisions."
