Edinburgh/Glasgow-Dublin to be only Ryanair Scottish routes from Friday

This compares to 83 planned summer routes – 59 from Edinburgh, 14 from Prestwick, seven from Glasgow and three from Aberdeen.

Ryanair said all its aircraft were being disinfected daily and social distancing “will be optimised on board” because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The budget carrier said the flights were “to maintain vital links to/from Ireland and to/from the UK to facilitate our passengers and their families to deal with emergencies that may require urgent travel over the coming weeks.”

It said it was currently operating repatriation and rescue flights across Europe to fly people home.

Aircraft were also being offered for emergency medical flights, including to and from China.

Group chief executive Michael O’Leary said: “As most EU countries have imposed flight bans or other restrictions, over 90 per cent of Ryanair’s aircraft will be grounded for the coming weeks.

“We will comply with these restrictions at all times.

“We are all working with EU governments to try to keep some minimum flight links open for emergency reasons, even though the passenger loads on these flights will be very low.”
