The centre – set up with eight surgeries, state of the art diagnostic equipment and a large team dedicated to their profession – delivers a wide range of specialist dental treatment delivered by clinicians who have done years of additional training to become registered as a specialist in their chosen field of expertise.

Edinburgh Dental Specialists (EDS), in Rose Street, doesn’t focus on routine dental work; that aspect of patient care is carried out by general dental practitioners who refer their patients with complex dental requirements to EDS for expert multi-disciplinary care.

Dr. Kevin Lochhead, who started EDS 27 years ago, is keen to temporarily expand how they can deliver some of their specialist services in order to accommodate patients who cannot access care with their family practitioner due to lockdown restrictions.

“We were able to invest heavily in air purification and PPE last summer, and as a result have been fortunate to operate fully and safely since last June. However, the majority of our patients are referred to us by their family dentist, whose services are unfortunately still severely restricted. This means that people who really need our services and expertise, do not currently have access to us. We are therefore expanding our clinical hours to try to accommodate patients who need to self-refer”.

“Patients will be triaged and if we think their dental requirements remain best served by their own family dentist, we will direct them that way, but if our clinical services and levels of expertise are the right option for their current situation, we will endeavour to offer them access to treatment at EDS whilst liaising with their family dentist”.

EDS is regarded as one of the UK’s most experienced and highly regarded practices providing dental implant treatment. It first carried out implants 25 years ago and has completed many thousands of successful and complex cases since, including All-on-Four and Zygomatic Implant cases.

Having all the specialists under one roof means that the prosthodontists (specialists in tooth replacement) and oral surgeons work as a team to replace missing teeth with natural looking, implant supported alternatives.

Spread over five stories in the heart of the city – just ten minutes from Haymarket and Waverley – EDS also has its own laboratory, meaning the consultation, treatment and manufacture of the restoration work is all done “in house” by highly skilled technicians making for the most efficient treatment possible.

While EDS is a fully private clinic, they work with patients to deliver the best outcomes within individual budgets. Finance is offered and many private dental insurance policies are also accepted.
