Debenhams redundancies: The department store has said that it will be cutting 2,500 roles

The company has announced that they have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic

Department store Debenhams has announced that they will be making sweeping redundancies. The company will be cutting 2,500 roles as the economic impact of coronavirus continues to claim jobs.

There are 14 Debenhams stores across the country, with two in Edinburgh.

This move comes after the Office of National Statistics reported that 730,000 people have been taken off payrolls since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

The release also comes at the same time as that of InterContinental Hotels, owners of Holiday Inn, has said that 650 jobs are at risk.
