Covid-19 deaths: latest figures show 4,070 have died in Scotland since pandemic began

A total of 4,070 deaths from coronavirus have been have been registered in Scotland, according to the latest official statistics.

The figures, from the National Records of Scotland (NRS), include all deaths registered up to 14 June where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Between 8 and 14 June, 70 deaths relating to the virus have been registered, a drop from 19 from the previous week.

This is the seventh week in a row where the rate of deaths involving Covid-19 has fallen.

A total of 1,032 deaths across the country were recorded over the week, which shows a death rate of three per cent more than average for the same week over the last five years.

The records also reveal that 92 per cent of those who died from the disease had at least one pre-existing condition.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease were the most common, associated with 38 per cent of all deaths involving Covid-19, followed by ischaemic heart disease, which accounted for 11 per cent.
