Coronavirus in Scotland: one new death reported as more than 1,000 test positive in the last 24 hours

A total of 1,122 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours as Scotland reports one new death.

Of these new cases, 428 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 274 in Lanarkshire, 105 in the Lothians and 97 Ayrishire and Arran.

The remaining cases have been reported from the other mainland health boards across the country.

To date, 1,052 people are being treated in hospital with confirmed Covid-19, which is an increase of 36 from the day before, and 90 patients are in intensive care having tested positive for the virus – four more than yesterday.

So far, 57, 874 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland since the pandemic hit in March this year.

The country’s death toll currently stands at 2,701 after 13 deaths in total were recorded over the weekend.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was joined by Health Secretary Jeane Freeman and National Clinical Director Professor Jason Leitch during her daily briefing.

During her announcement, Ms Sturgeon said she believed the latest restrictions imposed across the country are starting to take effect.
