Coronavirus in Scotland: 37 new deaths as country records 1,248 cases in 24 hours

A total of 37 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours as Scotland sees a rise of 1,248 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday.

To date, 1,249 people are being treated for Covid-19 in hospital, an increase of 22 yesterday, and 95 people are in intensive care, 3 fewer than yesterday, having recently tested positive for the virus.

A total of 83,259 in Scotland are confirmed to have had the virus since the start of the outbreak in March, according to government figures.

The country’s death toll currently stands at 3,323 under the daily measurement.

The new 1,248 cases represents 9.7 per cent of new tests that were carried out yesterday.

The First Minister said today that it is ‘very likely’ that the death toll will this week pass 5,000 which she said was a ‘somber’ and ‘deeply distressing’ milestone.

The news comes after Nicola Sturgeon announced the local authorities which will be placed in level four lockdown restrictions as of Friday.

The local authorities which will move into level four are Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, West Lothian and Stirling.
