Coronavirus in Scotland: 17 deaths recorded as country sees rise of more than 1,700 cases

A total of 17 deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the last 24 hours as the government confirms 1,712 people have tested positive for the virus since yesterday.

Of those new positive cases, 584 cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 457 in Lanarkshire, 192 in Lothian and 151 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining were spread across the nine other health boards.

The total number of cases in Scotland since the start of the pandemic now stands at 52,615.
