Coronavirus outbreak at Edinburgh biscuit factory run by Wagon Wheels and Jammy Dodgers manufacturers

An Edinburgh biscuit factory has been hit by an outbreak of coronavirus.

Four workers have tested positive for Covid-19 at Burton's Biscuits, the firm which makes Jammy Dodgers and Wagon Wheels.

It is understood a number of colleagues at the factory on Bankhead Place in Sighthill have been told to go home and self-isolate after the tests.

A spokeswoman for the firm said that social distancing measures were now in place and that production at the factory would continue.

She said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues remains our number one priority.

"We continue to work closely with local health authorities to ensure that the most stringent hygiene and social distancing measures are in place.

"In addition, we continue to follow all guidance and advice provided by the Government.

"The Health Protection Team has undertaken a risk assessment and confirmed they are satisfied with the appropriateness of the measures taken by the company.

“Production levels at the bakery are unaffected and we are monitoring the situation carefully.”
