Coronavirus in Scotland: Number of new cases rises as more tested

The number of new cases of coronavirus in Scotland has risen, according to new figures released today.

There were 798 new cases covid-19 reported, after several days of dropping numbers. However this represented 3.9% of 23,519 new tests for COVID-19.

Yesterday’s figure of 655 represented 4.8% of 16031 tests.

That figure was down from 715 the previous day, and 827 the day before.

It has also been revealed that 47 deaths due to coronavirus.

Positive tests made up 3.8% of those carried out.

1018 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed covid-19 down from 1,076.

A total of 93 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed coronavirus, which is unchanged from yesterday.

The total number of deaths in Scotland due to coronavirus is now 7053.

According to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, care home deaths have fallen by 69% in the past four weeks.
