Coronavirus in Scotland: No Covid-19 deaths for 13 days but possible cluster revealed in Greater Glasgow area

A total of 260 patients are in hospital with the virus.

No new Covid-19 deaths have been reported in Scotland for 13 days, the First Minister has announced.

However a possible new cluster of cases has appeared in the Glasgow area.

Nicola Sturgeon announced at the Scottish Government daily press briefing that 22 new positive tests for the virus have been reported since yesterday, of which 14 are believed to be in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

Nicola Sturgeon gave an update on Scotland's figures.

The First Minister said she was not able to provide more detail on this possible cluster, but that more information will be given later.

In response to a question about the issue she said: I’m not able to give any more information on the possible cluster that is under investigation right now, it wouldn’t be helpful for me to give information before the incident management team meeting has happened and I've got more solid detail than I have at the moment.

"I was advised that this possible cluster was being investigated last night and I know there has been a problem assessment group looking at it but we need a bit more information.

Ms Sturgeon added: “The information I have just now is that it has been associated with a particular location, I’m not going to get into the detail of that right now but part of the challenge we have around any potential cluster is to make sure that everything possible that can be done to minimise onward transmission is being done.

"I can’t stand here right now and tell you that there is no risk of onward spread, if I was satisfied about that it wouldn’t be a potential cluster under investigation. We will put more information into the public domain as soon as we can if there is an issue that is genuinely causing concern and needing to be investigated.

"People can cast their mind back to the Lanarkshire outbreak last week, to Dumfries and Galloway a couple of weeks before that to get a sense of the kind of things that will be going on and the kind of information that we will seek to put in the public domain should that prove to be required.”

A total of 260 patients are now in hospital with the virus, four fewer than yesterday.

There has been no change in the number of people in intensive care with the virus, at two. The First Minister stressed that there have been no new Covid-19 admissions to intensive care since 9 July.

A total of 18,580 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, while 2,491 patients have died after testing positive.
