Speaking at her daily press briefing this lunchtime, the First Minister confirmed that seven more people had died from the virus in the last 24 hours.

It brings the total death toll of people who tested positive for Covid-19 to 2,557.

Confirmed cases of the virus have now reached 41,256, an increase of 1,297 on the day before.

17.2 per cent of people tested for the virus in the last 24 hours were positive.

Ms Sturgeon said that 419 of the new cases were identified in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, 337 in NHS Lanark, 191 in NHS Lothian, and 95 in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

The number of patients in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus stands at 527 - 40 more than yesterday.

35 people are now being treated for the virus in Scotland’s intensive care units.
