Coronavirus: Care company seeks ex-hospitality or tourism workers to fill 150 job vacancies

Care-at-home business HRM Homecare is creating up to 150 jobs as it expands to cope with increased demand due to the coronavirus.

The Kilmarnock firm, which provides support to elderly and vulnerable people in west and central Scotland in their own homes, aims to provide permanent or temporary employment to hospitality and tourism workers who have lost jobs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

HRM said it will simplify its training process to get new recruits up to speed as the virus outbreak pushes up demand for carers, who are classed as key workers under the government’s coronavirus guidance.

The firm employs almost 250 workers and provides 9,000 hours of care each week for 680 people.

MD Lynn Laughland said: “Like the NHS, the care at home sector has a hugely vital role to play in today’s society. As everywhere, we are facing an unprecedented threat to our ability to carry out our jobs due to Covid-19.

“We are striving to make sure we have the ability and capability to meet the demand that Covid-19 has brought and are following the current guidance so that every possible safeguard is in place to protect both our staff and our service users from infection from coronavirus as our carers go about their jobs.

“We are really keen to hear from those passionate about helping others and when the chips are down will show their metal.”
