Coroanvirus in Scotland: NHS Western Isles announces eight new cases of covid

In a latest update from their chief executive, NHS Western Isles has confirmed that there have been eight new cases across their health board with seven linked to an outbreak in Barra.

Gordon Jamieson, chief executive of NHS Western Isles announced there has been one case on Benbecula which is linked to a previous case and seven linked to the outbreak on Barra.

Test and Protect has identified a number of close contacts and Mr Jamieson added they will be conducting a ‘significant number’ of further tests tomorrow.

NHS Western Isles is urging residents and those islands to limit their contact with other people and only go out if ‘absolutely necessary.’

Mr Jamieson said: “This is a rapidly developing situation and I would appeal to everyone particularly the residents of Barra to limit their contact with other households and in fact only leave the house if it’s absolutely necessary.

"Please continue to take every precaution you can- we must contain and suppress this virus.”
