Dating app Tinder has seen chat times go up 30% as COVID-19 keeps people in their homes

Tinder’s data shows that, in mid-March, conversations were up 30% compared to February, and that people’s bio’s were reflecting new social distancing norms in this coronavirus era with people using phrases such as ‘be safe’, ‘wash your hands’ and ‘social distancing’

A spokesperson for Tinder said: “In this challenging time, we see Tinder members finding new ways to connect.

“As an area becomes more affected by physically-isolating measures, we see new conversations happening there and those conversations last longer.

“This epidemic is also changing the tenor of connection in the hardest hit places. More people are using Tinder bios to show their concern for others (‘how is everyone’) instead of their life motto.”

Tinder has responded to the physical distancing by releasing their ‘Passport’ which will allow people to match with people from all over the world, rather than just in their area.

This will be free to current users throughout April.

The Scottish Government have imposed police enforced lockdown across the country early last week to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In Scotland, there have been 1,563 patients who have tested positive for the virus.
