Charity fish supper plan to aid spinal injury victims

FAMILIES are being encouraged to get together with friends and host a fish and chip supper to help victims of spinal injuries.

The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is holding a Great British Fish and Chip Supper event on 21 May to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the meal.

The association asks each supper guest to make a 5 donation.

SIA will provide all organisers with a fundraising pack containing fundraising ideas, invitations and donation envelopes.

The money raised from the suppers will help SIA offer support to individuals who become paralysed, and their families – from the moment a spinal injury occurs and for the rest of their lives – by providing services and publications that enable and encourage paralysed people to lead independent lives.

The charity said that every year in the UK more than 1,000 people experienced a spinal cord injury and in the UK alone there were an estimated 40,000 people with such injuries.

Donor development officer Elizabeth Wright said: "What better way to celebrate 150 years of the fish and chip meal than by taking part in the Great British Fish and Chip Supper?

"We are also encouraging people to hold a fish and chip lunch in their work places to raise even more funds.

"You can even be a local community group wanting to run a supper with your group."
