The official Twitter page of the UK Civil Service surprised social media by an unexpected tweet following the Boris Johnson press conference.

The tweet read: “Arrogant and offensive. Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?”

The message was swiftly deleted but not before it was retweeted over 20,000 times and liked almost 30,000 times.

The tweet appeared at 5.53pm, barely 10 minutes after Boris Johnson addressed the nation defending his chief advisor Dominic Cummings, who is being accused of breaking lockdown rules.

In response, the Cabinet Office stated: “An unauthorised tweet was posted on a government channel this evening.

“The post has been removed and we are investigating the matter.”

Mr Cummings travelled from London to Durham after his wife became symptomatic with coronavirus to self isolate near his family, an action that the Prime Minister defended, saying that Mr Cummings acted “responsibly, legally and with integrity”
