A Scottish brewery would rather 'sweep the streets' than continue supply Wetherspoons pubs

Glasgow’s West Brewery has decided to break ties with the pub company due to their reaction to the coronavirus pandemic

The West Brewery has said that they would rather ‘sweep the streets’ than do business with Wetherspoons chairman Tim Martin.

This follows Mr Martin’s suggestion that his staff look for work at a supermarket after refusing to pay them when the pubs closed in the coronavirus lockdown.

Although the company later did a u-turn, agreeing to pay the 43,000 staff after a strong backlash to his comments, West has decided that they would no longer supply the chain.

Government emergency legislation closed down all non essential businesses including pubs, restaurants and theatres in measures to halt the spread of COVID-19.
