Half of MPs believe that Scottish independence is now more likely as a result of Brexit

A new poll shows that 51% of MPs think that Scottish Independence is more likely due to Brexit, with only 37% disagreeing.

The poll, by Savanta ComRes also found that there was a divide between MP’s who were elected before 2019 and those elected after.

57% of MPs elected before 2019 believe independence in Scotland is more likely because of Brexit while 52% elected in 2019 do not believe Brexit has had any impact.

Four in five Labour MPs think that independence is more likely, whereas only three in ten of Conservative MPs agree.

As well as Scottish Independence, MPs are also divided on whether Brexit has impacted the likelihood of Irish reunification.

51% think that it is now more likely, whilst 39% disagree.

Four in ten MPs think that Brexit has harmed the peace process in Northern Ireland, however almost half disagee.

It is predominant Conservative MPs, eight out of ten, who believe that Brexit will have no impact on peace in Northern Ireland, with nine out of ten of Labour MPs disagreeing.

A new You Gov survey suggests that 60% of Labour supporters across the UK back another independence referendum "in principle" in the next few years, and 56% think the party should too.

The study, which spoke to 1,073 Labour members between March 17 and March 24, found that while supporters in the rest of the UK believe there should be another vote, just 31% in Scotland feel the same - with 61% against the idea and 8% undecided.
