Grangemouth business names truck after Captain Sir Tom Moore

A haulage firm has paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore by naming one of its lorries after the army veteran.

Grangemouth company John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing came up with the idea to show its appreciation for the work the 100-year-old did in raising £33 million for NHS charities.

The family-owned business shared a photograph of its latest fleet addition, which is now titled Grange The Captain Tom Foundation, on the day of Sir Tom’s funeral yesterday.

A statement from John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing read: “It is with great sadness that, as a nation, today we say goodbye and pay our respects to Captain Sir Tom Moore who provided the country with hope and inspiration over the past year.

“After raising millions of pounds to support the NHS, his legacy lives on through the ‘The Captain Tom Foundation’ to continue to raise money for generations to come.

“We are honoured to name one of our fleet additions the ‘Grange The Captain Tom Foundation’ to show our appreciation for his work.”

It’s not the first time John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing has branded a vehicle in honour of a deserving recipient or subject.

Just this year, the firm, which was established in 1956, has named lorries after blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, palliative care service Strathcarron Hospice, Forth Valley Stillbirth and Neonatal Death (Sands) and Parkinson’s UK.

A spokesperson said: “As the world continues the battle against coronavirus, here at John Mitchell Haulage and Warehousing, we have come up with a unique way to show our support to the vital healthcare industry who have worked tirelessly over the last year.

“A company tradition that has gone on for many years is to name each vehicle in our fleet under a different annual theme.

“In the past, this has included Scottish Munros, London 2012 Olympians and 2014 Ryder Cup Golfers. This year, we have selected the theme ‘Health Heroes’ meaning each of the 21 MAN TGX 26.470s going on the road in 2021 will be named after a healthcare charity.

“We aim to raise awareness of the selected charities who will have their name and logo displayed on their assigned vehicle, as well as giving a well-deserved cash donation to each.”
