Former Dundee and Morton hero 'becomes new kitman' at Rangers after shock retirement

Former Greenock Morton captain Jim McAlister is understood to have joined Rangers as a kitman after hanging up his boots in January.

The 35-year-old shocked his former employers less than a couple of months ago when he made it known he wanted to retire to pursue opportunities in another line of work.

The Scottish Sun now reports that the midfielder has joined the Ibrox side, where he’ll work alongside long-serving kitman Jimmy Bell. It’s understood the boyhood Rangers fan has already taken on the new role.

During his playing days, the Isle of Bute native made over 600 appearances, mostly in the lower leagues of Scotland and England. He won each of the three lower-league titles in Scotland and was a Challenge Cup runner-up with Hamilton Accies.

He played two seasons in the top flight over a three-year stay with Dundee. Most notably, he was bitten by ex-Dundee United striker Nadir Ciftci in what would be the Turkish striker’s final game before leaving for Celtic.
