Ex-Rangers defender to explore new challenges after leaving Motherwell coaching role
The former Rangers defender cited changes to his role at Fir Park in recent months behind the decision to move on.
Ross joined Motherwell as a youth-team manager having managed in Norway and the Faroe Islands and eventually moved closer to the first-team under Stephen Robinson’s set-up. He was assistant during Keith Lasley’s interim management spell before Graham Alexander’s appointment last month.

Hide Ad“I feel the time is right for me to pursue other challenges in my career, given how my role has changed here in recent months,” Ross said on Motherwell’s website. “I wish the new management, the team and the club all the best, and thank everyone for the time I’ve spent with Motherwell.”
The 39-year-old returned to Fir Park in January 2019 in a newly created head of under-18s and under-21s role after a short playing stint but the reserve manager had been seen in the dug-out more frequently recently. He courted controversy earlier this season when he called for stricter punishments for covid-19 outbreaks in light of Motherwell’s game at St Mirren being called off.
As a player Ross began his career at Rangers but it was in Norway he enjoyed most success as a manager leading FK Sola to promotion.
