Volunteers open new front in fight to keep beach clean

A SEAFRONT clean-up will take place in north Edinburgh tomorrow.

Local volunteers will meet to clean the area from Gypsy Brae along Silverknowes and Cramond to improve the look of the area and protect wildlife.

They also plan to work on improving local facilities such as toilets, access to bins and seating areas.

Volunteer Ian Greenhalgh plans to set up a formally constituted group, "Friends of the Front", to ensure they can apply for funds and keep the activity going.

Park ranger for North Neighbourhood, Jennifer Johnstone, said: "People giving up their free time to clean up other people's litter may not be that glamorous, but it never ceases to amaze me that we can achieve much more by working together.

"We want to make the area more attractive for residents and visitors, as well as enhance the area for wildlife. Edinburgh has a wide range of habitats, but some of them are often abused."
