What is Clearing?

The UCAS Clearing system is part of the undergraduate application process. It enables students to be matched with places across the UK which are waiting to be filled. Clearing is open for 2023 and you can apply as soon as you have your exam results.

Who can apply?

Anyone who applied for a place at a UK university but didn’t get an offer, declined an offer, failed to meet the condition of their offer or did better than they were expecting. It can also be used for people who have not yet applied.

Phone the hotline or live chat – you could be made a verbal offer there and then. Submitted picturePhone the hotline or live chat – you could be made a verbal offer there and then. Submitted picture

The University of Stirling has a Clearing website plus a dedicated phone number – 01786 466166 – and live chat at stir.ac.uk/clearing.

Before you call, be prepared. Have your exam results, UCAS ID and qualifications to hand, and tell the person you speak to what course you are interested in.

Think about the questions you want to ask – course availability, funding, accommodation, or student support are key topics.

In some cases, the University of Stirling will make a verbal offer on the phone, backed up by a confirmation email the same day, and it is vital that you log onto the UCAS hub within 24 hours to accept it.

You can be a school leaver or a mature student (anyone over 21 who did not go to university) from any background.
