Third of schools face axe

ONE in three secondary schools in Aberdeen could be axed under radical proposals unveiled yesterday.

Members of the city council's education committee are being urged to go out to public consultation on proposals to cut the number of high schools from 12 to eight. The proposals, if finally approved, would result in the amalgamation of Bridge of Don and Oldmachar academies, together with the merger of Hazlehead and Harlaw, Torry and Kincorth, and Dyce and Bucksburn.

St Machar Academy and Aberdeen Grammar School will also be refurbished under the proposals, tabled for next Thursday's meeting of the education authority.
