The two Scottish private schools ranked among the world's top 150
Two prestigious Scottish private schools have been named among the top 150 in the world.
Fettes College and Gordonstoun both made the cut in the fifth annual edition of The Schools Index, produced by the Carfax Education consultancy.

Hide AdThe list is categorised by region, with the two Scottish schools also included in the “Top 25 UK Senior” category.
As well as academic results and preparation for university entry, schools are selected for their unique ethos, their local and international reputation, and how they prepare pupils for life beyond academia, in addition to other areas such as technology and sustainability.

Helen Harrison, head of Fettes College in Edinburgh, said: “We are delighted to be included in The Schools Index by Carfax Education as one of the Top 150 private schools in the world this year and a Top 25 UK Senior School.
“As a Scottish boarding school offering the dual pathway of International Baccalaureate and A Levels, we are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students who leave our school knowing themselves, looking out for others, capable of thinking critically and ready to make a positive mark on their rapidly changing world.

Fettes, which has more than 750 students and around 350 members of staff, is based in the Comely Bank area of Edinburgh.
It was attended by former prime minister Tony Blair and former Rangers chairman Sir David Murray. In fiction, its most famous former pupil was Ian Fleming's secret agent James Bond.

Hide AdGordonstoun, meanwhile, boasts King Charles III as a former pupil at the school in Duffus, Moray. It was recommended by his father, Prince Philip, who was one of the school’s first pupils.
Other schools named in the top 150 include the likes of Eton College, Harrow, Wycombe Abbey and Rugby School south of the border, as well as King’s College in New Zealand and Vienna International School.
New entries in The Schools Index this year include UK senior school Haileybury and prep school Windlesham House.
