Student wins bronze at beauty finals

A STUDENT from West Lothian College has won a bronze medal in the Scottish finals of a hair and beauty competition.

Beauty therapy student Caroline Courtney, 20, took third place in the "free hand nail art" category of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition and will travel to Blackpool to compete in the UK finals later this month.

Ms Courtney, from Edinburgh, said: "I was so nervous before and during the competition.

"I really wanted to do my best so I put a lot of thought into what I was going to design.

"In the end I decided to decorate my model's nails with a zebra print using black and white tones. I couldn't believe it when I found out I won bronze and had qualified for the national competition."

Laura Johnston, beauty therapy lecturer at the college, added: "Our students have a history of doing very well in the Scottish heats and we will all be rooting for Caroline to win at the nationals in Blackpool."
