Six schools in with a shout as they win place in education awards finals

SIX schools from across Edinburgh have been selected as finalists in the Scottish Education Awards 2010.

Robbie Huxtable, a youth worker at Leith Academy, is in the running for the Educational Supporter of the Year Award after being nominated by the school's headteacher Jack Simpson to recognise his work with vulnerable pupils.

Currie Community High School has also been nominated for the final stages of the sustainable schools award in recognition of its long-standing commitment to environmental and sustainable development education.

Drummond Community High School, the Royal Blind School and Murrayburn Primary School are also represented in the awards.

Education secretary Michael Russell said: "The reality of Scottish education is that we have hundreds of thousands of good pupils, taught by tens of thousands of excellent teachers within thousands of great schools.

"The Scottish Education Awards give us the chance to recognise this."
