Racial bias ‘hits job prospects’

PREJUDICE and discrimination are preventing some foreign nationals from getting work in Scotland, according to a report.

Researchers were tasked by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to examine low income and poverty among people from various ethnic backgrounds in the Highlands and Fife. Chinese and East Europeans said they had experienced discrimination in getting employment and that there was a lack of recognition of overseas qualifications.

The study, by researchers from the University of the Highlands and Islands and Edinburgh University, will be discussed at seminars in Inverness and Dunfermline tomorrow.
