S1 pupils heard what inspires the authors, what books they love and where they get the ideas for their stories from.
The ‘Read to Succeed’ programme took place across all 25 secondary schools last month, with pupils receiving signed copies of one of the author’s books at each event.
The programme concluded with an inspirational (and funny) presentation from Leicester-based author Bali Rai.
He said: “It was great to see how enthused the pupils were about the Read to Succeed programme and about the importance of reading for pleasure and how essential school libraries are - it’s been fantastic to be part of it.”
Isabelle Boyd, assistant chief executive for Education, Youth & Communities, added: “This is a fantastic programme which highlights our drive to close the attainment gap. Above all it’s about encouraging a lifelong love of reading.”
The other authors involved were: Jonathan Meres, Theresa Breslin, Lari Don, Alan Gibbons, Alex Scarrow, Alison Galbraith, Danny Weston, and Oisin McGann.
