Lothian teen arrested after using smoke bomb at school

A TEENAGER will appear in court at Falkirk on Tuesday charged with letting off a smoke bomb during leavers' high jinks at a West Lothian high school.

Police said the 17 year old male was arrested after “a smoke flare” was discharged in Bo’ness Academy.

The incident occurred just before the school day began on Friday, 28th April 2016 - the last day of school before exams for school leavers and traditionally regarded as “Muck Up Day” by youngsters.

The flare set off the school’s smoke alarm system, the entire school was evacuated, and the fire service attended.

No damage was caused and no-one was injured.

The youth will appear at Falkirk Sheriff Court tomorrow afternoon.

A spokesman for police in Bo’ness said: “Whilst some may consider this type of behaviour a prank, we must remember that thick smoke and burning flares can cause panic or injury.

“Considerable disruption was caused within the school environment and the fire service had to attend.

“I wish to remind school leavers that damage or reckless behaviour that endangers others will not be tolerated in any way.”
