Lecturers set for jobs protest

LECTURERS are today due to protest over plans to cut at least 80 jobs at Glasgow University.

The University and College Union (UCU) claims 25 education staff have already been targeted because of the government cut in teacher training places.

The union says job losses are unnecessary and the university has broken promises to staff.

Mary Senior, UCU Scottish official, said: "The university made it quite clear to us that its restructure plans would not be a cost- cutting exercise. With at least 80 jobs now at risk, those words mean little."
