Financial clout for city pupils

CHILDREN as young as three are to be taught about managing their finances as part of an initiative launched in Scotland’s biggest city.

Schools and early years centres in Glasgow will incorporate financial education into the Curriculum for Excellence, to be launched nationwide last year.

It is hoped the scheme will help children develop better personal finance skills by carrying out tasks such as studying mobile phone contracts and keeping a record of weekly finances using a spreadsheet. It is thought that around 18 per cent of households in Glasgow have no bank account and around 36 per cent have no savings.
