Ex-players help fundraisers reach their goal

A CHARITY football match pitting former SPL legends against fans has netted more than £2,500 for a mum fighting cancer.

Around 200 spectators turned out to watch a Winchburgh Burgh select team take on a "Vion Halls" outfit featuring ex-players Steve Pittman, Steve Maskrey, Derek McWilliams, Henry Smith and Jose Quitongo.

Enthusiasm was no match for experience with the former players taking the spoils 14-3.

The money-spinning fixture was organised to turn community stalwart Kathleen Baxter's dream trip to Lourdes and Disneyland into reality.

The 37-year-old, who runs Winchburgh's Communtiy Hall Playgroup, has had multiple cancers since first being diagnosed in December 2007.

While she continues her treatment, family and friends have rallied to help send her and her four children to Disneyland Paris.
