Bug ravages school pupils

A SICKNESS bug has struck at a city primary school, leaving a fifth of pupils unable to attend classes.

Around 60 children at St Mary’s Primary School in Leith have been affected and parents have been advised to keep them off for 48 hours after vomiting has settled.

A dozen pupils who turned up for school yesterday were sent home.

A deep clean of the school was due to take place this morning, although it is not expected that it will have to close. A letter was sent out to parents yesterday advising them of the illness.

Infection experts from NHS Lothian have been called in and have provided advice to the city council.
