A university spokesman said: “It is unique in the UK as the only student-led conference of its type, run by the Abertay Ethical Hacking Society.

He added: “An important element of the conference is the platform it gives Abertay students to present their work to a large audience.”

‘Leading the way’

Ollie Whitehouse, associate director of main sponsor NCC Group, said: “As the largest dedicated cyber-security services firm in Europe, NCC Group sees the continued investment in tomorrow’s professionals as critical to overcoming future challenges.

“Local grass roots Scottish training initiatives are critical to both the cyber-security of Scotland and the rest of the UK.”

Colin McLean, the programme tutor and creator of the UK’s first Ethical Hacking degree at Abertay, explained: “The Ethical Hacking degrees at Abertay have a reputation of providing graduates with the attributes required by the leading security companies in the UK. This is in no small part due to the work ethic and drive of the students that study at Abertay.

“The Securi-Tay conference is entirely student-led, driven and organised. It is now recognised as the leading vocational security conference in Scotland and has attracted some of the top security speakers in the UK.

“I am proud to say that the ethical hacking students at Abertay University are leading the way in Scotland’s battle to defend against cyber threats.”
