Aberdeen schools merger plan consultation begins

ABERDEEN City Council today launched a period of statutory consultation on its plans to amalgamate Kincorth and Torry academies and establish a new secondary school on a site at the Bobby Calder Park.

The new school will accommodate all pupils in the current Kincorth Academy and Torry Academy catchment zones.

Councillor Jenny Laing, the convener of the council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee, said: “We need a school that meets the needs of the modern curriculum and which will provide pupils living in Torry, Kincorth and Cove with the best possible educational opportunities.

“The views of parents, staff and the wider community are vitally important to this process and that is why I would encourage everyone who has an interest in the new school to take part in this consultation.”

A series of six public consultation meetings are to be held throughout May at various key locations in the area.
