The latest in Andrew Arbuckle’s volumes to be drawn together in aid of the rural charity, RSABI, follows the familiar pattern of a whole host of short, humorous tales from across the rich and varied past and present of the farming world.
And the pages produce a range or responses – from the mild smile when encountering a new twist to an old tale - to the side-splitting, laugh-out-loud reaction elicited by a carefully crafted joke with a punch-line which takes you totally by surprise.
In a year like the one now coming to an end – and with the future still far from certain – it’s a delight to lose yourself in the sort of banter which the limited contact and social distancing of the past ten months have seen many miss out on – the sort of craic that can put a smile on the face of a day.
And the warm glow which comes from knowing the purchase will help bring the total raised for charity by the series of books, thoughtfully compiled by Andrew and his late brother John, closer to their £100,000 target, can only add to the enjoyment of the book.
Copies are available direct through the RSABI online shop at www.rsabi.org.uk, by calling 0131 364 4205 and at selected farm merchants.
