Scotch Whisky Association shake up management

THE Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) yesterday unveiled a shake up of its senior management as it moves some of its operations to a new London office.

Long-serving executive Campbell Evans, the “international affairs director”, will be leaving the SWA by mutual agreement “later in 2015”.

It also revealed that, as part of the restructuring, European affairs director Nick Soper left the SWA on 17 November.

The organisation now plans to recruit a new “global affairs director” to take responsibility for its international and EU business. The new director will be based permanently in London and will head up the association’s new London office.

Chief executive David Frost said: “We believe that a permanent London presence will enhance our ability to engage effectively and build relationships both with the UK government and with other governments and bodies represented there.”

The global affairs director will manage a team based in London and in Edinburgh.

Evans joined the SWA in 1991 as media relations manager and was made a director in 1999, but he only took on the international role a year ago. Soper had also been with the association for more than 20 years.

The changes come after the SWA unveiled a new chairman and vice chair last month, along with a new deputy chief executive.
