Salmon firm reels in '˜strong' results for 2015

The Scottish Salmon Company highlighted plans to scale its business after reporting challenges in the fourth quarter but a 'strong and stable' full-year performance.

The Edinburgh-based firm, part of an Oslo-listed group, said revenues fell to £23.9 million from £30.8m in the year-ago quarter, with a year-on-year drop in harvested volumes to 6,059 tonnes from 7,373 tonnes.

The figures were hit by factors including “severe” weather, and currency issues due to “the strength of sterling against the weak Norwegian krone”.

It experienced its second-highest turnover and volumes for the full year, reaching £100.4m and 25,569 tonnes respectively, after £125.9m and 30,183 tonnes in 2014.

Managing director Craig Anderson noted that the firm has put “strong” foundations in place, saying: “Moving on to 2016 we have a strong base on which to deliver our forecast of 30,000 tonnes.”
