Milk producers warn ‘ the war is not yet over’

Even though the remaining two milk buyers yesterday rescinded plans to drop the price of milk from next week in the face of mounting farmer protests, farming leaders made it clear the war was far from won.

Even though the remaining two milk buyers yesterday rescinded plans to drop the price of milk from next week in the face of mounting farmer protests, farming leaders made it clear the war was far from won.

While welcoming the move by Mueller/Wiseman and Arla to hold off their proposed price cuts, Bob Carruth of NFU Scotland said there still needed to be a change in the way processors and retailers treated producers as the current system was clearly broken. “There is an urgent need for the whole dairy supply chain to establish fairer, more balanced relationships,” he said.

Arla said it had made the move because it had “recovered money from its customers”. while Wiseman said it would hold its current milk price for the month of August.
