McLaren joins board of mutual insurer

Former NFU Scotland president and current chairman of Quality Meat Scotland, Jim McLaren, has been appointed a director of NFU Mutual, the country’s largest rural insurer.

A Perthshire farmer specialising in growing cereals and with a beef enterprise that includes a herd of pedigree Simmentals, McLaren is also a non-executive director of the Scottish Agricultural College and is chairman of Angus Cereals.

Commenting on the appointment, which commences at the start of 2012, Lindsay Sinclair, the Mutual’s chief executive, said that McLaren’s experience in the Scottish farming industry would be invaluable to the company
