The deal marks the food firm’s first UK-wide listing with the grocery giant. It will see Asda stock three of Mackie’s best-selling flavours – mature cheddar and onion, sea salt and flame-grilled Aberdeen Angus. The crisps – the result of a joint venture with Perthshire-based potato processor Taypack – are said to have performed strongly since being launched in Asda stores north of the Border. They will now be stocked in a further 70 branches in England and Northern Ireland.

Mackie’s, which currently sells more than 100,000 bags of crisps a week, estimates that the latest deal will result in an additional one million bags being produced per year. The agreement will increase the Asda contract value to an estimated £750,000.

Ronnie Wilson, commercial manager at Mackie’s, said: “It’s fantastic that Asda is supporting our brand.”
